Nehemiah 7

CHAPTER 7

Nehemiah Sets Jerusalem in Order

1And it came to pass when [³was built ¹the ²wall], and I set the doors, and numbered out  the gatekeepers, and the singers, and the Levites, 2and gave charge to  Hanani   my brother, and to  Hananiah the ruler of the palace in Jerusalem, (for he was as [²man ¹a true], and one fearing   God more than many,) 3that I said to them, [³shall not ⁴be opened ¹The gates ²of Jerusalem] until at the same time the sun rises; and while they are still vigilant let [³be locked ¹the ²doors] and be safeguarded! And you set advance guards of ones living in Jerusalem, every man at his own post, and every man before his own house! 4And the city was spacious and great, and the people were few in it, and there were no houses having been built. 5And [²put it    ¹God] into   my heart, and I gathered the important ones, and the rulers, and the people into groups. And I found a scroll of the group, to the ones which ascended at first, and I found things being written in it.

The Sons of the Captivity

6These are  the sons of the place, the ones ascending from the captivity of the resettlement of whom [⁵resettled ¹Nebuchadnezzar ²the ³king ⁴of Babylon], and they returned to Jerusalem, and to Judah, every man to his own city; 7the ones coming with Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and Nehemiah, Azariah, and Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth Bigvai, Nehum, Baana and Masphar; the men of the people of Israel -- 8sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred seventy-two; 9sons of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy-two; 10sons of Arah, six hundred fifty-two; 11sons of Pahath-moab, with the sons of Jeshua, and Joab, two thousand eight hundred eighteen; 12sons of Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty-four; 13sons of Zattu, eight hundred forty-five; 14sons of Zaccai, seven hundred sixty; 15sons of Binnui, six hundred forty-eight; 16sons of Bebai, six hundred twenty-eight; 17sons of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty-two; 18sons of Adonikam, six hundred sixty-seven; 19sons of Bigvai, two thousand sixty-seven; 20sons of Adin, six hundred fifty-five; 21sons of Ater   of Hezekiah, ninety-eight; 22sons of Hashum, three hundred twenty-eight; 23sons of Bezai, three hundred twenty-four; 24sons of Hariph, a hundred twelve; sons of Asen -- two hundred twenty-three; 25sons of Gibeon, ninety-five; 26sons of Beth-lehem and Netophah, a hundred twenty-three.; 27sons of Anathoth, a hundred twenty-eight; 28sons of Beth-azmaveth, [²men ¹forty-two]; 29men of Kirjath-jearim, Chephirah and Beeroth, seven hundred forty-three; 30men of Ramah and Gaba, six hundred twenty-one; 31men of Michmas, a hundred twenty-two; 32men of Beth-el and Ai, a hundred twenty-three; 33men of the other Nebo, fifty-two; 34sons of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty-four; 35sons of Harim, three hundred twenty; 36sons of Jericho, three hundred forty-five; 37sons of Lod Hadid and Ono, seven hundred twenty-one; 38sons of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred thirty. 39The priests; the sons of Jedaiah in the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy-three; 40sons of Immer, a thousand fifty-two; 41sons of Pashur, a thousand two hundred forty-seven; 42sons of Harim, a thousand seventeen. 43The Levites; sons of Jeshua the son  of Kadmiel, with the sons   of Hodevah, seventy-four. 44The singers; sons of Asaph, a hundred forty-eight. 45The gatekeepers; sons of Shallum, sons of Ater, sons of Talmon, sons of Akkub, sons of Hatita, sons of Shobai, a hundred thirty-eight. 46The Nethinim; sons of Ziha, sons of Hashupha, sons of Tabbaoth, 47sons of Keros, sons of Sia, sons of Padon, 48sons of Lebana, sons of Hagaba, sons of Shalmai, 49sons of Hanan, sons of Giddel, sons of Gahar, 50sons of Reaiah, sons of Rezin, sons of Nekoda, 51sons of Gazzam, sons of Uzza, sons of Phaseah, 52sons of Besai, sons of Meunim, sons of Nephishesim, 53sons of Bakbuk, sons of Hakupha, sons of Harhur, 54sons of Bazlith, sons of Mehida, sons of Harsha, 55sons of Barkos, sons of Sisera, sons of Tamah, 56sons of Neziah, sons of Hatipha. 57The sons of the servants of Solomon were the sons of Sotai, sons of Sophereth, sons of Perida, 58sons of Jaala, sons of Darkon, sons of Giddel, 59sons of Shephatiah, sons of Hattil, sons of Pochereth, sons of Zebaim, sons of Amon. 60All the Nethinim, and   the sons of the servants of Solomon were three hundred ninety-two. 61And these ascended from Tel-melah, Tel-haresha, Cherub, Addon, Immer. And they were not able to identify the houses of their families, and their seed, if [²of ³Israel ¹they are]. 62The sons of Dalaiah, sons of Tobiah, sons of Nekoda, were six hundred forty-two. 63And from the priests; sons of Habaiah, sons of Koz, sons of Barzillai, which took of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite for wife, and was called by their name. 64These sought the record of their own   group, and it was not found, and they were thrust away of the priesthood. 65And Arthasastha said to them, that they should not eat from the holy   of holies until [²should rise up ¹a priest] to the lights and the perfections. 66And [⁴was ¹all ²the ³assembly] in one accord, as four ten thousands and two thousand three hundred sixty, 67besides their menservants and their maidservants -- these were  seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven; and male singers and female singers -- two hundred forty-five. 68Their horses -- seven hundred thirty-six; mules -- two hundred forty-five; camels -- four hundred thirty five; 69donkeys -- six thousand seven hundred twenty. 70And from a portion of the heads of the families gave for the work, to the Arthasastha for a treasure -- [³of gold ²drachmas ¹a thousand], [²bowls ¹fifty], [³robes ⁴for the ⁵priests ¹five hundred ²thirty]. 71And from the heads of the families they gave into the treasuries of the work [²of gold ¹money] -- [²ten thousands ¹two], and [³silver ⁴minas ¹two thousand ²two hundred]. 72And [⁵gave ¹the ²rest ³of the ⁴people] [⁴of gold ³drachmas ¹two ²ten thousands], and [²silver ³minas ¹two thousand], and [²garments ³for the ⁴priests ¹sixty-seven]. 73And [³settled ¹the ²priests], and the Levites, and the gatekeepers, and the singers, and the ones from the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel in their cities.
